I’ve been following Laura Richard’s -the host- works since I’ve caught up on her work as I watched CBS’s work on the murder of JonBenet Ramsey and with her work in Real Crime Profile.
The narrative she chooses and the very fact that she puts victims first, how she tries to be their voices since they are silenced, are deeply important. The act of, I don’t know what else to say, making the perpetrator protagonist in this sort of stories is actually what is wrong with crime analyzing shows and else. It’s what they want, you know, giving them their 15 minutes of fame.
But Laura does the opposite and I believe that’s what all us must do. The victims have to be put first.
And when Laura talks about embedded misogyny, I feel heard. Because we’re living in a world of suppression, mostly. Sometimes it is so deeply buried that we don’t even realize. Anyone can be victimized regardless of their gender, I am not saying they cannot. I just believe if we do not change how we think, nothing is going to change for the better.
Laura, thank you for your work. Thank you for making silenced voices heard.
